PEW - Well balanced meal

In PEW 2/3, we spent several lessons learning about the different food groups and the role they play in keeping our bodies healthy. We focused on the idea that food is fuel, helping students understand how different types of food give us energy in different ways. We talked about how fruits, vegetables, proteins, and grains help our bodies grow, stay strong, and feel good! Students then had the opportunity to create their own balanced meal by drawing a plate and filling it with foods from each group. This activity helped them apply their learning in a fun, creative way and encouraged them to think about making healthy food choices in their daily lives

Peanut butter and Jelly Writing

In literacy, we were talking about the importance of clear and descriptive writing. I told students that I had never made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before, and their job was to write me a detailed recipe. I encouraged them to be as descriptive and specific as possible, using clear step-by-step instructions. The next day, I put their writing to the test by following their recipes exactly as they wrote them, and it got very messy! Some forgot to mention using a knife, others didn’t say to open the jars, and a few had me spreading peanut butter with my hands! The students had so much fun seeing the results, and it was a memorable way to show the importance of clear, descriptive writing.
