Summative Assessment.
This is a rubric I used in my practicum to summatively assess students “Natural Events in Alberta” group presentations. This rubric helped to guide students by clarifying the expectations of their task. Additionally, it helped encourage equal group collaboration and participation in the activity. I made sure to include assessment criteria for the group and individual elements to prioritize academic fairness. Having criteria based on visual appeal helped students to challenge their creative side while also balancing the academic expectations. Although this entire project acted as a lesson for me to break down large projects into even smaller chunks, this rubric helped to structure my teaching expectations as well.

Experiments
This is a rubric I used to summatively assess all of the experiments my students completed in sciences class. Using a consistent rubric for all science experiments helped maintain clear and consistent expectations for student behaviour, effort, and understanding throughout the unit. By assessing students on the same three criteria (following directions, understanding, and effort) I was able to create a predictable structure that students became familiar with. This consistency encouraged students to develop responsible habits, such as listening to instructions, handling materials respectfully, and staying engaged. It also allowed students to reflect on their growth across multiple experiments, reinforcing the importance of process over perfection. This approach supports a positive and safe learning environment and helps students internalize what is expected of them during hands-on scientific learning.
